NHL Rumors and Speculation
- Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): Jim Benning is on the hot seat in Vancouver and Friedman says there are reports that the Canucks have spoken to former LA Kings AGM Mike Futa.
- Victor Mete can’t get into Montreal’s lineup and Friedman says there’s interest.
- The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for any potential upgrades to what they have already.
- Vince Dunn is on the trade block and Friedman says the Blues are looking for a first-rounder in return for him. He was a healthy scratch last night.
- The Anaheim Ducks are looking for scoring. Friedman says to keep an eye on them.
- Nick Suzuki might’ve been had in a potential deal for Pierre-Luc Dubois if not for his hot start to the season.
- Eric Francis (The Athletic): Says the Anaheim Ducks tried to acquire Justin Faulk, Kasperi Kapanen, and Pierre-Luc Dubois over the past year and a half and struck out on all three. Some believe that could reflect poorly on GM Bob Murray’s ability to close on a big deal.
- Shug McSween (nhltraderumors.me): Piggybacking of Elliotte Friedman’s report that the Anaheim Ducks are looking for some scoring help listed a few teams they may target and he also comments on the teams that will have interest in Vince Dunn,
- “Expect the Ducks to circle around the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders and Nashville Predators as they search for ways to improve their club.
- “If/when Dunn is moved, expect to see a number of teams interested and sending St Louis offers. The Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets, New Jersey Devils, and the Pittsburgh Penguins are all likely to be in on Dunn.”
- Craig Custance (The Athletic): Reported via an anonymous player’s agent that Buffalo Sabres star Jack Eichel could be traded this off-season.
- “Jack Eichel,” one anonymous agent said is very likely to be traded. “He’s an interesting one. At some point, he’s just going to say, enough. Buffalo and losing is not fun.”
- Anthony Scultore (Forever Blueshirts): Adding to the Eichel speculation believes that the Rangers could very well be the team he lands on,
- “Something is brewing and many believe it’s the Rangers landing Eichel. Jeff Gorton would have the assets in players and prospects to get the deal done during this offseason. The Rangers game-plan is to use their deep prospect pipeline to acquire a big name star, and that means a trade not UFA signings.”
