NHL Rumors and Speculation

  • Eric Duhatschek (The Athletic): The New York Rangers made a hard push for Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Eichel last off-season.
  • Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): The Pittsburgh Penguins plan on giving forward Evgeni Malkin a contract extension this summer, but there’s some speculation that Malkin could want out.
    • Sam Bennett has requested a trade. He would like a bigger role in the lineup.
    • The New Jersey Devils are not inclined to let Tom Fitzgerald interview for the Penguins vacant GM’s position.
  • Aaron Portzline (The Athletic): Forward Patrik Laine is on track to make his Columbus Blue Jackets debut on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars.
  • Rick Carpiniello (The Athletic): There’s an excellent chance that Rangers d-man Tony DeAngelo isn’t claimed off of waivers.
  • Dan Kingerski (Pittsburgh Hockey Now): The Penguins were close to a deal for St. Louis Blues defender Vince Dunn prior to Jim Rutherford’s resignation.
  • Josh Wegman (The Score): The Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, and Winnipeg Jets are potential destinations for Vince Dunn.
  • Salim Nadim Valji (TSN): Montreal Canadiens defenseman Victor Mete has officially requested a trade out of the organization.
  • Adrian Dater (Colorado Hockey Now): Avalanche blueliner Devon Toews could be out “long-term” but the team won’t know for a couple of days.
  • Bob Stauffer (Oilers Now 630CHED): “What would you think of a Koskinen/Merzlikins tandem?”
  • David Pagnotta (The Fourth Period): The Rangers “would not stand in the way” of Drury pursuing the GM post in Pittsburgh, though a request for an interview from the Penguins has not yet come as of Saturday.
