NHL Rumors and Speculation
- Adam Gretz (NBC): Believes if Max Pacioretty is available, the Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, and Florida Panthers should be calling.
- Dan Kingerski (Pittsburgh Hockey Now): “Multiple sources told Pittsburgh Hockey Now the Penguins are interested in a pair of big-name players who have big-time salaries. One of those names is Vegas Golden Knights LW Max Pacioretty.”
- “There is also some talk of compliance buyouts returning to the GMs’ toolbag, which could create a flood of transactions, new free agents, and probably a couple of subsequent blockbuster trades.”
- Joe Haggerty (Boston Hockey Now): Reckons the Boston Bruins should take a run at newly-available Vegas Golden Knights winger Max Pacioretty. Haggerty says the Bruins would most likely have to send Jake DeBrusk, Urho Vaakanainen, and a valued draft pick to Vegas to make it a fair deal.
- Lyle Richardson (Spector’s Hockey): Had this to say about the recent Pacioretty rumors,
- “Pacioretty’s cap hit, age, and his 10-team no-trade clause, however, could make finding a suitable trade partner difficult. So will the limited number of clubs with sufficient cap room to comfortably absorb his full $7 million AAV.”
BLH’s Thoughts: I want to believe there’s a way that the Oilers could grab Pacioretty in a trade, but I don’t see any possibility of that myself.
Vegas needs cap relief now and Edmonton is set on their wings. I’m sure if the trade was right they’d be okay with sending James Neal or Kris Russell on their way, but my feeling is if they’re trading those vets, they’d be looking for cap relief not the opposite and I don’t reckon the Golden Knights would have interest in those players.
But could you imagine a pure sniper like Pacioretty on McDavid’s or Draisaitl’s wing? Woof!
- The Hockey Writers: Elliotte Friedman has reported that the Seattle Kraken might be the team who benefits most from the expected flat cap that could last the entire duration of this newest CBA. Friedman expects a lot of teams will start calling the Seattle team and trying to make deals which will give the Kraken a ton of opportunity to add quality players in trades where teams are simply dumping salary.
