NHL Rumors and Speculation
- Down Goes Brown (The Athletic): Could a roster made up of players who only ever played for one NHL team beat rosters made up of all the other combinations?
- Jimmy Murphy (Florida Hockey Now): Reports that the Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and New Jersey Devils are interested in Max Pacioretty (VGK).
- Joe Haggerty (Boston Hockey Now): Claims the New York Rangers are interested in signing former Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.
- Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): Is of the belief that the Vancouver Canucks are one of two teams interested in signing defenceman Travis Hamonic but that they’d need to shed some salary first as they are over the cap by around $1.5M.
- Dan Murphy (Sportsnet): Reckons that the Canucks are prepared to lose one of Braden Holtby, Tyler Myers, Kole Lind, Antoine Roussel, or Zack MacEwan to Seattle at the expansion draft.
- Jeremy Rutherford (The Athletic): Has some concerns regarding the future of the St. Louis Blues. One of them being how quickly the team is getting so old.
- “This could become an old team quickly, and even if the Blues do move on from Tarasenko and O’Reilly when their contracts expire in three years, they’d still be tied to Schenn, Faulk and Krug for at least another four seasons. They’ll continue to count for nearly $20 million of the team’s salary cap — one-fourth of the NHL’s current $81.5 million cap, which may not see much of an increase in the next five years.”
- Rick Carpiniello (The Athletic): Believes the New York Rangers should stay the course going forward as there are a lot of promising players coming up through their system and a lot of them are going to make the team sooner than later. Therefore, there will be a lot of peaks and valleys and the current management and coaching team are willing to be patient with the kids as they work out the kinks during their development. But there is one question going forward…
- “How do they keep Zibanejad, who will be 29 when his current contract expires at the end of ’21-22? Can they really go maximum term and money for a player at that age, no matter how important he is to the franchise? It will be a very difficult decision to make.”
