NHL Rumors and Speculation
- The Fourth Period: The Boston Bruins are believed to have expressed interest in Calgary Flames defender Noah Hanifin at some point this off-season. It is unclear how far along any potential trade talks went, but the Flames are also believed to have interest in Ondrej Kase.
- Luke Fox (Sportsnet): “Freddie Andersen is going into a contract year, because he’s heard his name dangled in trade rumors, and Kyle Dubas did poke around. I think because the compacted schedule, and the fact that they haven’t gotten over the hump and won a playoff round, he’s going to be a major storyline this year.”
- Allan Mitchell (The Athletic): The five best players available for Seattle in the upcoming expansion draft will be Jesse Puljujarvi, Dominik Kahun, Zack Kassian, Kyle Turris, and William Lagesson.
- “If he (Puljujarvi) turns into a strong NHL player on any of the top three lines, the team will have addressed a prominent position from a mid-level talent pool. Puljujarvi’s contract is very good (he’ll have one year left at $1.175M and be an RFA at that time) and he is just 22.”
- Bruce Garrioch (Ottawa Sun): The Ottawa Senators plan on being active as “buyers” rather than “sellers” at this year’s trade deadline.
- Greg Wyshynski (ESPN): “From an NHL team exec this morning, FWIW: “NHL season is starting Jan. 13th. Confirmed last night. We are going to be playing 56 games.”
- Frank Seravalli (TSN): “I’m told the Vegas Golden Knights have ‘doubled down’ in recent days and weeks in an attempt to try and trade Max Pacioretty.”
- “It is looking more and more likely tha training camps will open for all teams on Jan. 3rd, 2021.”
- “There have been talks to expand roster size from 23 players to 26. Another four additional players for taxi squad makes it 30.”
- Michael Russo (The Athletic): Zach Parise is one of the leading candidates for the captaincy in Minnesota.
- Rory Boylen (Sportsnet): “When we get more clarification on next season, movement will likely start on this front, and we should brace for at least a few one-sided deals taht have to be made for solely cap compliance reasons.”
