NHL Rumors and Speculation
- Sportsnet: Brian Burke has intimated that the Pittsburgh Penguins will not be going through any massive changes and making blockbuster trades in the short-term.
- ““Well, we’ve agreed we’re going to see what we can do with this group. It’s win now if we can with this group. We’ve got to do some things if we’re going to do that. But it’s win first. Then we’ve got some tough decisions next summer and we’ll deal with those when we get there.”
- Sportsnet: Chris Johnston reckons Alex Galchenyuk and Ryan Dzingel could be moved again this season.
- “I don’t think it’s out of the question that Alex Galchenyuk’s stay in Carolina is short. He’s bounced around a lot in recent years and could be on the move again here in the near future.”
- “And the Senators have a decision to make on a familiar face in Ryan Dzingel. He’s in the last year of his contract currently, and if they don’t want to keep him beyond this season, he’ll be someone I think will be flipped before the April 12th deadline for a pick.”
- The Athletic: Corey Pronman believes that Columbus made a very astute trade sending a 7th round draft pick to Carolina for forward Gregory Hofmann.
- “Hofmann is a skilled forward with great offensive instincts. He makes a lot of plays and does so with pace. Typically when you sign a 28-year-old European scorer, you’re getting a guy with average size and skating, but Hofmann is different in that he’s not undersized and he’s a very good skater, above-average for the NHL, which is why I think his game will translate to the NHL. He’s not great off the puck and won’t be a penalty killer in the NHL, but I think the skating and skill combination is good enough to take a regular shift at even strength and be a useful contributor in the bottom six.”
- Edmonton Journal: Kurt Leavins continues to send out the message that the Edmonton Oilers could move out a young right-shot defenseman to upgrade its netminding.
- “A lot of people think the Oilers need a top-flight goaltender, and I tend to agree…if not this year, surely next. And if you need to trade for a big piece like a legit starting goaltender, you almost always have to give up something substantial in return. If you don’t think one of those right-hand D’s is what the other team will be demanding in return, you’re kidding yourself.
