NHL Rumors and Speculation
- Ryan Dixon (Sportsnet): Despite their hots starts, Dixon speculated on the futures of American snipers Brock Boeser and Johnny Gaudreau recently. He also added that he doesn’t expect either to be traded.
- “Boeser is from the “State of Hockey” and wouldn’t the Wild love to get their hands on a homegrown sniper, while New Jersey native Gaudreau — an unrestricted free agent in 2022 — would surely fit well with a Devils team looking to drum up excitement as the club rebuilds with youth.”
- Stu Cowen (Montreal Gazette): In an interview with Habs forward Phillip Danault, the centerman reversed course a bit with regards to his situation in Montreal,
- “I needed some time to adapt,” he added. “There are a lot of things that changed at the same time, whether it was my ice time or the way I was being used on the penalty-kill. I’m still playing with the same linemates, though. We try to give everything we have every night. I’m ready to do everything I can to help the team win. It’s going really well right now and we’ll keep on going that way.”
- Sportsnet: During Saturday Headlines, insider Elliotte Friedman released the names of eight candidates that have interviewed for the Pittsburgh Penguins GM vacancy,
- “As far as I can tell, I believe there’s been eight individuals who have been interviewed so far,” Friedman said. “From Patrik Allvin, who’s currently in there alphabetically through Kevin Weekes of the NHL Network.”
- “The full list, according to Friedman, includes Allvin, Weekes, John Ferguson Jr., Michael Futa, Ron Hextall, Mark Hunter, Jason Karmanos and Chris MacFarland.”
- Kurt Leavins (Edmonton Journal): Suggested in his latest weekly feature that with the emergence of defenseman Evan Bouchard, maybe one of their good young right-shot defenders could fetch the Edmonton Oilers a nice return.
- “It’s crowded over there on the Oilers Right Defence right now, nice problem to have. How do you solve it? You could start by recognizing how valuable of an asset a good, young RHS D is in almost every other organization in the league. One of them could probably fetch a pretty tidy return.”
- Steve Simmons (Toronto Sun): Proposed an interesting swap of forwards between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks,
- “Leafs could use a player like the available Sam Bennett. They need some edge on their third line. They wouldn’t be able to get Bennett 1-for-1 for Alex Kerfoot, but if they could sweeten the pot just a little, they might be able to find a deal here.
