NHL Rumors and Speculation
Joshua Kloke: Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said that they would like to get Rodion Amirov to North America as soon as possible.
Mike Zeisberger: With the Canadian government allowing the quarantine timeframe to drop to seven days from 14 played a big role in allowing the Maple Leafs to explore the ideas of American based players at the deadline according to Dubas.
Pat Steinberg: Believe that the Calgary Flames were looking to move pending UFA Derek Ryan but there wasn’t really a market for him.
Greg Beacham: Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray said that he and Ryan Getzlaf talked about a trade somewhere. Getzlaf would also wanted to make sure they’d be able to get a significant return for him to help the franchise. Murray added: it wasn’t there. He is all about the organization, whatever is best for us.”
Joe Haggerty: Bruins GM Sweeney on signing Taylor Hall to a contract extension: “It comes down to success and fitting in. I think the proof will be in the results”
Mike Heika: Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill on holding on to pending free agent Jamie Oleksiak: “Jamie’s a big part of our core… Unless somebody made me an offer I could not say no to, he was not on the table.”
Bruce Garrioch: Ottawa Senators GM Pierre Dorion said that he was wanting to move out some of the veterans at the deadline to give some youngsters a bigger role on the team.
Anthony Di Marco (TFP): The Flyers could look to add a big name free agent like superstar defenseman Dougie Hamilton in the summer, but if the speculation of Alex Pietrangelo wanting nothing to do with them last off-season is to be believed, what would change this time around with the same caliber of player?
Felix Sicard (TFP): Ducks GM Murray was not able to walk away from the trade deadline with the trove of assets he surely would have preferred. Especially in the case of Rickard Rakell and Josh Manson, it is difficult to see how their value does not decrease moving forward, given that a prospective buyer gets one less playoff run out of them.
Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland said he didn’t make a push to acquire Hall at the deadline. Friedman doubts the Toronto Maple Leafs made a pitch. The New York Islanders, Vegas Golden Knights and St. Louis Blues seemed the strongest pursuers beside the Bruins. The Golden Knights made an offer the Sabres would’ve preferred but Hall exercised his no-movement clause to go to Boston.
- The big trade on Monday that sent Anthony Mantha from the Detroit Red Wings to the Washington Capitals prompted Friedman to wonder if anyone asked Wings GM Steve Yzerman about team captain Dylan Larkin. One of the factors behind moving Mantha is the Wings feel their rebuild will take longer than expected. Perhaps the Mantha deal will elicit other clubs to inquire about Larkin.
- The Winnipeg Jets asked about Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov before the deadline.
- The Jets and Philadelphia Flyers kicked the tires on Arizona Coyotes defenseman Alex Goligoski.
- The Leafs considered Coyotes winger Conor Garland before acquiring Nick Foligno from the Blue Jackets.
- The Oilers had an interest in defenseman Patrik Nemeth before he was traded to the Colorado Avalanche.
- The Pittsburgh Penguins looked at Travis Zajac before he was shipped to the New York Islanders.
- The Avalanche, they considered goaltender David Rittich before acquiring Devan Dubnyk from the San Jose Sharks.
"I'm unsure there will be a team on the ice on Friday. Their facility opened yesterday and only 10 Canucks skated. I'm led to believe that is number of players who are comfortable to play a game. They still have a few days, but I could see them go with 18 or 19 skaters." Sekeras
