NHL Rumors and Speculation
Darren Dreger (TSN) gets the sense that a Taylor Hall (BUF) trade will happen around April 9th or 10th.
TSN has added Florida Panthers upstart netminder Chris Driedger to their trade bait list.
- Columbus Blue Jackets d-man David Savarad has now climbed to #1 on the TSN trade bait board.
- Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton has moved up on the TSN trade board.
Jeff Gordon (St. Louis Today) says teams like the Bruins, Islanders, and Maple Leafs could come calling for St. Louis Blues forward Mike Hoffman.
- GMs are looking at Buffalo Sabres defenseman Brandon Montour, but would need to retain some of his salary if a trade were to happen.
- The Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers are two teams that could use a puck moving defenseman like Vince Dunn.
Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) is reporting that the Toronto Maple Leafs have called Buffalo and are asking what their plans are with goaltender Linus Ullmark.
David Pagnotta (The Fourth Period) is of the belief that if there is a serious Cup contender in need of defense, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler will heavily consider waiving his no-trade clause.
- Teams like the Panthers and Jets are looking for depth down the middle and could look to add Canucks center Brandon Sutter.
Fluto Shinzawa (The Athletic) has the following players listed as skaters who the Boston Bruins should be willing to part with in a trade in their “on the fly” rebuild,
- Anders Bjork – “He could be a better scoring fit on a team with a lighter emphasis on defensive structure.”
- Jake DeBrusk – “Has zero five-on-five goals this year. He’s coming off a healthy scratch.”
- Jakub Lauko – “The second-year pro is an energetic, high-tempo, fearless left wing.”
- Jeremy Lauzon – “Lauzon will most likely be unprotected in expansion.”
- Mason Lohrei – “The left-shot Lohrei is on track to become a top-four NHL defenseman.”
- Oskar Steen – “But Steen could be a good fourth-line center or right wing.”
- Urho Vaakainen – “He has value because he doesn’t require expansion protection.”
- Jakub Zboril – “He could be lost for nothing in expansion.”
- 2021 First Round Pick – “With amateur viewings limited this season, the odds of hitting on a mid-round selection aren’t as high as usual.”
Scott Burnside (The Athletic) says these players aren’t going anywhere even though they’re on most trade boards and have been in the rumors all season long for some,
- Barrett Hayton (ARI) – “It’s fair to say that Hayton, the No. 5 pick in 2018, has not exactly soared yet, but still it seems a mite too early for the Coyotes to be giving up on a 20-year-old kid, especially since there’s no way the return matches where he was selected.”
- Antti Raanta (ARI) – “Bill Armstrong, hired after the ugly departure of former GM John Chayka, must reseed a bare draft asset larder in any way he can. “
- Jonathan Bernier (DET) – “Unless the news gets better in a hurry on Bernier’s health, it’s hard to imagine he goes anywhere.”
- Matt Dumba (MIN) – “With the Wild in the thick of an unexpected playoff race in the West Division, don’t expect Guerin will be looking to move Dumba.”
- Dylan Strome (CHI) – “With the uncertainty surrounding the future of captain Jonathan Toews, who has not played this season, and the fact that Strome has another year on his current deal at a nice $3 million cap hit, what’s the hurry?”
- Chris Driedger (FLA) – “Driedger figures very prominently into the short-term plans for Florida, which looks ready to do some playoff damage.”
- Josh Manson (ANA) – “It would likely make more sense to wait until the draft to try to move Manson, unless he feels he can hit a home run at the deadline.”
- Sam Reinhart (BUF) – “Unless another NHL player in roughly the same age bracket and with term left beyond the end of next season comes back in the deal — let’s say a guy like Johnny Gaudreau — it makes little sense to move Reinhart.”
- Islanders’ First Round PIck – “We’re guessing Lamoriello finds a fit he likes without having to spend a first, perhaps with a straight-on rental in the form of Kyle Palmieri.”
