NHL Rumors and Speculation
Don Brennan (Ottawa Sun): In the offseason, the Flames should look at moving Johnny Gaudreau who has a year left at $6.75 million, as well as Sean Monahan who has two years left at $6.375 million.
Murray Pam (Full Press Hockey): Ottawa Senators 25-year old defenseman Artem Zub has a cap hit of $925,000 this season and up to $850,000 in potential performance bonuses. He could be looking at a four- or five-year deal in the $3 to $3.25 million per season deal.
Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet): The Canucks will begin talks with pending UFA defenseman Nikita Tryamkin in the next few days. He’s been playing in the KHL for the past four years.
Leafs Lunch: Pierre LeBrun on the open market value of Toronto Maple Leafs pending unrestricted forward Zach Hyman is compared to what the Leafs may be able to pay him.
- “So in a nutshell, I will tell you the range I got back was anywhere from $4.5 million on the low end to high 5’s on the high end. Depending on who I heard from, anywhere from four, to five, to six years in term.”
Darren Dreger (TSN): The Columbus Blue Jackets are not expected to have John Tortorella behind the bench for game one of next season. The controversial head coach is expected to coach the remainder of this season and then the Blue Jackets will be moving on.
Jim Thomas (StlToday.com): Recently reported Tyler Bozak would like to re-sign with the St. Louis Blues. The 35-year-old center is due to become an unrestricted free agent this season. He’s completing a three-year, $15 million contract and was sidelined 21 games this season by concussion issues.
Adam Vingan (The Athletic): Adam Vingan believes Matt Duchene must prove his worth as the Nashville Predators jockey to hang onto the final playoff spot in the Discover Central Division. Recently returned to the lineup after missing 22 games with a lower-body injury, the 30-year-old winger has not held up his end of his $8 million per season deal.
Sean Shapiro (The Athletic): Now that the new deal is done, ESPN will be broadcasting hockey again. So who is rumored to be on the broadcast team? we should be seeing more of John Buccigross, Steve Levy, Linda Cohn and Barry Melrose on air. Gary Thorne will be back in a play by play role. ESPN’s top two hockey writers Emily Kaplan and Greg Wyshynski will be featured as panelists on “Around the Horn”.
