NHL Rumors and Speculation
Michael Traikos (Post Media) lists Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmieri, Rickard Rakell, Marc Staal, and Jamie Oleksiak as the top-5 options for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Steve McDichan (former Maple Leafs goaltending coach) thinks that Dallas Stars goaltender Anton Khudobin would be an intriguing fit in Toronto.
NHL Network lists Anthona Mantha, Elvis Merzlikins, Sam Bennett, Nick Foligno, and Devan Dubnyk as potential Pittsburgh Penguins targets.
Michael Russo (The Athletic) is reporting that some NHL executives say that they wouldn’t trade Kirill Kaprizov and a first round pick for Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel if they were the Minnesota Wild.
Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) is saying that the NHL hopes the Vancouver Canucks can finish the season, but it all depends on how they recover.

Stephen Whyno (Associated Press): Says the buyers are at this year’s NHL trade deadline are easier to identify: Lamoriello’s Islanders lost captain Anders Lee to a season-ending right knee injury, Dubas’ Maple Leafs look like the class of the North Division with perhaps a hole or two to fill and Edmonton might be a top-four defenceman away from challenging Toronto.
Eric Engels (Sportsnet) on the question from a fan with regards to if the Montreal Canadiens should spend whatever picks/prospects necessary to get the best available defenseman at the trade deadline,
- “I don’t believe it’s imperative for Bergevin to pay whatever cost to get the best defenceman available… But if — and it’s a big if right now with the Nashville Predators currently in a playoff spot — Mattias Ekholm were to become available prior to April 12, I think Bergevin’s in a great position to acquire him without giving away too much of the future.”
