NHL Rumors and Speculation
WGR 550: Frank Seravalli was on the “Howard and Jeremy Show” talking about Buffalo Sabres forward Jack Eichel’s interest level around the league.
“In talking to people around the league yesterday, I had a NHL general manager who is potentially interested in trading for Jack Eichel say at the moment he’s untradeable. So you’ve got a guy that’s unhealthy, unhappy, and now potentially untradeable. It’s a pretty ugly triumvirate for the Sabres and the worst-case scenario, I would imagine.”
“I still think even at this very moment there’s teams that would be willing to take a risk, provided that they review the medical records, to trade for a superstar like Jack Eichel. But when Kevyn Adams says to you yesterday that his goal and what’s most paramount is Jack Eichel’s health, that’s a big reason why, because it’s going to play a big factor in terms of trading Jack Eichel. Until there’s clarity there, that’s going to be a lot harder to do, and it’s going to reduce the return.”
Matthew Sekeres: Geoff Courtnall is a name to keep an eye on. He has had an influence with the Canucks ownership since 2008 when they hired Mike Gillis as their GM.
It’s possible that Courtnall could get a front-office, hockey business role with the Canucks
John Vogl (The Athletic): Wrote that the expectation is that Buffalo will receive a kings ransom for captain Jack. Vogl suggests the Calgary Flames would offer a package of: Matt Tkachuk, Connor Zary and a 1st round pick.
The Fourth Period: The Flyers are expected to try an upgrade their defensive corps this off-season and Fletcher made it sound like the backup goaltending position could be in need of an upgrade. Current backup Brian Elliott will become an unrestricted free agent July 28.
Fletcher does not plan on rushing into any decisions, but he will spend the next few weeks evaluating his roster and exploring his options moving forward. The Flyers have been linked to such star players as Patrik Laine, Johnny Gaudreau and Ryan Ellis over the last several months, and it’s possible Fletcher looks to make a bold move this summer.
Pierre LeBrun (TSN): is reporting that Seth Jones might be the No. 1 defenceman available this off-season via a trade. Jones has one-year left on his contract.
“…this is a crossroads off-season for Seth Jones and the Columbus Blue Jackets because of his contract situation. Now, he did raise eyebrows with his comments during his season-ending availability when he talked about not wanting to make any quick decisions and that he has a year left on his deal and he’s going to be around for at least a year.”
