Coming from an Edmonton Oilers point of view, BLH provides you with the latest NHL news, rumors, and speculation from all of the internet’s best sites including Spector’s Hockey, The Fourth Period, NHL Trade Talk, The Hockey Writers, Sportsnet, The Athletic, TSN and more!
Take this for what it’s worth, but apparently Caleb Jones is unhappy with the Edmonton Oilers. He’s unfollowed the club on Twitter and most of his Oilers teammates (save for a few) and he’s started following the Seattle Kraken. Also, according to his bio, he’s not an Edmonton Oiler anymore, he’s a “professional hockey player”.
Mr. Jones is simply a "professional hockey player" now.

I’d have to think he’s a little perturbed about his TOI during the playoffs and possibly his treatment all season long.
It’s too bad he didn’t follow his mum’s advice…
1/2 Me as a mom, PART 1: What I tell my son when he gets scratched: "This is life & life isn't easy or fair. Get there early. Stay late. Ask for feedback. Work your ass off. Don't give off bad attitude vibes & pay attention to your body language. Control what u can control. 🙌

Can anybody explain to me why these young athletes do this kind of passive-aggressive stuff? I mean, he’s under contract for another year with the team unless he’s traded or Seattle does select him in the expansion draft. I mean, didn’t he just see what happened with Puljujarvi?
Maybe it’s all just a misunderstanding and his account has been hacked though?
For what it’s worth and no disrespect to the player, but expansion draft be damned, I would’ve traded him at the deadline for a center who could win some faceoffs. I don’t see him as the kind of player that will be anything more than a 3rd pair defender in the NHL and considering how the season went for him, I could’ve foreseen him getting overlooked in the playoffs by a coach who preferred his veteran options.
I mean, I get having a number of defenseman on hand in case of injury, but the Oilers had at least seven LHD available to play by game four of that series with Winnipeg if you include Philip Broberg. Jones wasn’t getting into the lineup…
Hopefully, everything works out for the young man. I’m sure he’ll find his way somewhere in the NHL.
From NHL Rumors (dot) com
Mark Easson recently posted a few Oilers-related links to some reports regarding Dave Tippett, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Adam Larsson,
David Pagnotta: Edmonton Oilers coach Dave Tippett will be entering the final year of his deal next season: “At my age, I’m going to go year-to-year… I’m not worried about that. I’m going year-to-year in my life right now.”
- Daniel Nugent-Bowman: Tippett said he’s already spoken with GM Ken Holland. Don’t expect a contract extension.
BLH’s Thoughts: Tippett’s got one more year to go here. If anything goes wrong during the regular season or if they shit the bed in the post-season again, I don’t see him coming back. Ken Holland might preach consistency but he knows that the pressure will be on from this point going forward and to be honest, I reckon bringing Tippett in for three years to get these guys on the straight and narrow was part of his plan and after next season he’ll be able to bring in someone else to take the team to the championship level. Maybe a guy like Jon Cooper if he happens to become available…
David Pagnotta: Pending UFA forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on his future: “I think I’ve said it from the start. I love being an Oiler, I always have. My goal is to stay an Oiler. Right now, it’s not really in my mind. I got a lot more in my head than that. It’s tough to kind of think about that. But I think I’ve said it from Day 1.”
BLH’s Thoughts: As I said earlier today, everyone in the Oilers org. wants Ryan to stay. He’s beloved by an entire city as well as the folks he works with on a day-to-day basis, but he’s going to be tempted to leave by other clubs who are willing to pay him more and offer him more term. So at the end of the day, this is really going to come down to RNH and what he believes is the best choice for him and his family going forward. Also, he wouldn’t be the first long-time Oiler to leave and then return at the end of his career.
Ryan Rishaug: Oilers pending UFA defenseman Adam Larsson said he loves it in Edmonton and would love to stay. There haven’t been much talks over the past month, which is not surprising given playoff time. expects talk to restart soon and the sides to reach a deal.
BLH’s Thoughts: Is it not a breath of fresh air hearing players speak of their love for Edmonton and the Oilers. Especially those that weren’t drafted and developed by the team.
I love Adam Larsson, he’s grown into one of my favorite Oilers defensemen ever. I call him “The Iron Swede” because he’s one of the toughest SOBs that I’ve seen in this current generation of NHLers who doesn’t need to fight to prove how tough he really is.
This is a player that I’m not sure could be replaced and what I mean by that is that he’s not just a coke machine. Sure, he’s a stay-at-home dman first and foremost, but he can skate well, he handles the puck good for his style, once or twice a game you’ll find him barreling up the ice with the biscuit for a zone entry, he doesn’t mind ripping a clapper from the point, and he leaves it all on the ice without complaint every single night. He’s an outstanding example for young players coming into the league with Edmonton in what it takes to be an NHL defenseman.
Aaron Portzline of The Athletic: One of the Columbus Blues Jackets biggest offseason decisions will be which goaltender to trade – Joonas Korpisalo or Elvis Merzlikins.
Last offseason if the goalie market had been better they would have made the move then. GM Jarmo Kekalainen had been looking for a first-round pick for either and didn’t plan on moving either for sake of moving them.
Korpisalo carries a $2.8 million cap hit with a $3.4 million salary. Merzlikins carries a $4 million cap hit with a $5 million salary.
BLH’s Thoughts: Despite Ken Holland saying he’d be okay coming back next season with Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen, I’m pretty confident that he’ll be back in Jarmo’s ear regarding Korpisalo and Merzlikins.
It sounds like things have soured on Darcy Kuemper a bit. I heard Bob Stauffer saying that maybe Kuemper is a bit too banged up at this point.
Chris Driedger is another netminder that I think the Oilers could get in on if the Panthers look to move him ahead of the expansion draft.
