NHL Rumors and Speculation
THE ATHLETIC: In a recent mailbag segment, Eric Stephens was asked if the Ducks might pursue a top-six winger such as Patrik Laine to bolster their offense.
BOSTON HOCKEY NOW: Jimmy Murphy cites an NHL source claiming the Arizona Coyotes are interested in acquiring Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel. Those young players Murphy’s source alluded to could include winger Clayton Keller, center Christian Dvorak, defenseman Jakob Chychrun and goaltender Adin Hill.
Murphy is also saying that former Montreal Canadien great Patrick Roy is one of the top candidates to become the next head coach of the Habs.
Anthony Di Marco (TFP): The Calgary Flames’ failure to clinch a playoff berth – the third time in the last six seasons – has raised questions. Are serious changes on the horizon?
-
“I would be absolutely stunned if both (Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan) were back next year”, said Francis. “The question is, ‘what’s the market for those guys.’ Their stocks are at an all-time low right now; they’ve had a bad season, coming off another bad playoff performance. I’m not sure how many people are really, really interested in paying significant amounts for either one of those guys.
“I just think their time here in Calgary is certainly coming to a close.”
Craig Button (TSN): The Calgary Flames going after Jack Eichel makes a ton of sense. Could Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan be part of a potential package?
Bruce Garrioch (Post Media): The Ottawa Senators informed Artem Anisimov that he won’t be back with the club next season. Ryan Dzingel and Derek Stepan are unlikely to return as well.
Pierre LeBrun (TSN): Says that Gerrard Gallant’s interview with the New York Rangers went well and that the Rangers are expected to interview three or four more head coaching candidates.
Scott Powers (The Athletic): The Chicago Blackhawks are hopeful to re-sign defenseman Nikita Zadorov, Pius Suter, and David Kampf. They’re also expected to sign Lukas Reichel once he’s finished playing for Germany at the World Championships in Latvia.
Frank Seravalli: Quinton Byfield is a non-starter for a Jack Eichel trade. He is not leaving Los Angeles.
