I don’t know if you watched the game or not, I only seen 30 minutes or so, but if you look at the possession charts below that’s all you need to know. I’d love to know how much puck possession the Oilers actually had in minutes because if not for Cam Talbot, this would’ve been a shit-show. I mean it more or less was on behalf of the skaters in white apart from Nuge and Eberle.
I’ll be honest, there’s not a lot to talk about regarding this game. The boys were completely outplayed and outclassed by a better Boston Bruins team but Edmonton came out on top due to a better goalie. I guess we should give them credit for showing the resilience they did. But getting outshot 49-24 is not going to make your coaching staff happy…
I think one thing we could point to is Darnell Nurse is starting to come down from that high earlier. He had a team worst -20 on-ice Corsi differential but his partner and game-winning goal scorer, Rej Sekera, had a -19. Lowetide has been pointing to this for a little while now. If I were to deduce the numbers and what LT has been saying, I’d say that maybe it’s time for the Oilers to go out and pick up a partner for Sekera so that Nurse can take a step back to breath.
I’m happy the team won because it put us in the a playoff spot for the time being and that’s a helluva feeling for us. The other thing it does is pushes us farther along in the standings than the Flames and as a fan of the Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos, this pleases me greatly.
Next up are the might New York Rangers and King Henrik will be looking for revenge. It’s the latter half of a b2b so one would have to think the Oilers will go with Nilsson but we have seen them play the same goalie in a b2b earlier in the year, with disastrous consequences no less mind you. I hope we hammer New York again. Could you imagine? 7 straight wins… That would get the East coast media’s attention.
Take care everyone!
