Big news coming out of the Edmonton Oilers camp this morning. Their practice has been canceled and a team meeting involving the coaches, management and upper management has been called. There’ll be a media avail after.
Speculation is rife that the team has fired Peter Chiarelli but I got word from a source that the Oilers have been shopping Leon Draisaitl heavily. Here’s what I was told,
- Nicholson said last night he wants moves.
- Leon is a lazy player away from connor. I think they need to move Leon for a pp d man. My personal opinion.
- Leon does not drive his own line. He gets paid 8.5 million a year to get carried by McDavid. That is extremely wrong. I don’t care how many points he has. Connor has helped him get 85% of those. Leon needs to start leading his own line, or if I was GM, I would move him.
It was the playoff run that got him paid. I’m sorry but in my humble honest opinion, Leon Draisaitl is massively overpaid. Away from Connor, he is a 60 65 point player. He is lazy, he doesn’t back heck very well. He dusts the puck off. And his shoulders slump. He SHOULD be getting 5.5 6 at MAX. No where near 8.5. You’re telling me he’s better than Tarasenko based on Cap hits? Not a chance. I’d rather have Tarasenko.
- Well even last night, away from 97, he was lazy. He only got his points when connor or nuge was on the ice with him.
So that’s quite the scathing opinion, eh? What do you think? There’s also some rumor going around the hockey world that Leon gets a bit pissy when he’s playing away from Connor and it’s making the coaches/brass irate because it’s messing up the balance of the roster.
I was going to write a post about the Oilers trading Leon based on this knowledge anyhow. Maybe I’ll expand later if this doesn’t actually go down.
Add to this that Ty Rattie and Ryan Spooner are on waivers and something has to be going down today.
The Latest on Peter Chiarelli:
I’ve been told that Peter is not at the office today. Sounds like his time is done.
Well, it’s looking like the day is shaping up to be an eventful one in Edmonton…
Like I said in the preface above though. Anything can change. So don’t be surprised if it does.
