Report: Trade interest in Coyotes’ Chychrun ‘intensifying’
  • Teams with reported interest include the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and Columbus Blue Jackets, among others.

BLH’s Thoughts: Darren Dreger had this to say in his report on TSN’s insider trading earlier in the evening that the Coyotes have lowered their asking price and are now more willing to take a contract(s) back. He adds that it will still cost at least a 1st round pick and a prospect(s).

On Twitter, Jonathan Wills (The Athletic?) said not only would Chychrun make the team better immediately at a somewhat suspect position (LD) but he’s on a reasonable contract for three years and EDM has the young pieces to put a package together.

My Take:

I wonder if there’s an appetite from the Oilers to move along Jesse Puljujarvi AND a player like Tyson Barrie along with futures for Chychrun. That would open up some serious cap flexibility for Holland, would it not? Then, since they’ve been toying around with Philip Broberg on the right side, they could slide the stunning Swede over to his off flank and partner him with Brett Kulak on the third pairing (where they both should be) and Dylan Holloway can fill Jesse’s boots in the top-six.

Now, I don’t know about you but does acquiring a proven offensive defenseman put Evan Bouchard’s position on the PP at risk? Also, does Bouchard’s future contract play into any tinkering that Ken Holland might be considering with regards to his defense.

For me, the group on the backend isn’t championship caliber yet and a part of me wonders if they might put a rush on things and not wait for Philip Broberg to develop. Holland has no qualms dealing younger players if the trade is right for his team.

I don’t know if the Oilers are desperate enough to get a trade like this done. I feel like of all the teams listed above Toronto could be and LA as well. Only time will tell on that regard…
