The pre-season is officially underway and even though it’s not the most exciting time of year, I’d like to know what or who everyone will be watching for over this run of tune-up games?
- “Jason Demers and Ryan Murray. It’ll be interesting to see how their play affects how the team handles Broberg and Samorukov.” – Yaremchuk
What do you expect from Warren Foegele in his second year with the Oilers?
- “Not big numbers or a break-out year, but something in the range of 15-20-35. He was underwhelming. That’s what I’d like to see this season, assuming he isn’t traded.” – Brownlee
The #Oilers have re-assigned forward Reid Schaefer to the @SeattleTbirds & returned defenceman Max Wanner to the @MJWARRIORS. Good luck in @TheWHL this season, fellas!

Either on this site or others, there is an article a day trumpeting the outstanding advanced stats that JP puts up. So why is he only worth, if we believe the hockey “insiders” a 3rd or maybe 2nd round pick? Does this tell us something about how GMs use fancy stats?
- “It is more about who the publicly available analytics use fewer data points than the ones the NHL use courtesy of private companies… He is a legit, solid NHL forward. He is a top-nine player. He is a solid forechecker and works hard. He is only 24 and can still improve…” – Gregor
BLH’s Thoughts: The thing I’m watching closely this preseason is how the goaltending performs because if it doesn’t, this team is in big trouble. No matter how well your top-six forwards and top-four defencemen are, if the goalies shit the bed, it’s bound to be a long year. That said, Skinner’s looked good so far and I’m just waiting to see Campbell so I can evaluate him on one game and use that as my prediction base for the rest of the year… (what?!)
I’m gonna be honest, I do not expect anything more out of McLovin’ this year than last. So the bar has been set low. If he can do himself a favor and be a shit ton more impactful, hallelujah! If not, meh. It’s his job to lose and by the looks of how Dylan Holloway is playing, Foegele’s holding onto that job by the hair of his ginger sack right now…
Schaefer, a 6’3” LW, is a big man, can skate, heavy shot.
Stayed in Seattle last night.
Joins T-Birds for another WHL run.Wanner, a 6’3” RD, has taken a quantum step forward over last calendar year.
I expect him to be signed to an NHL deal at some point this season. https://t.co/Nx2R63As2p— Bob Stauffer (@Bob_Stauffer) September 27, 2022
As for Jesse, color me shocked when all the local hockey men completely disregarded Pulju’s contribution to TWO of Edmonton’s goals vs. Winnipeg the other night and instead decided to focus on a couple of shifts where he struggled to get the puck off the boards. It really is a joke, but I get it. There’s a local boy, whom I’m a big fan of for what it’s worth, who is lightning in a bottle and he’s caught the eye of the old boys with mics.
The way I look at Jesse is that he’s ushering in a new breed of hockey player. One that focuses on defense first and offense second because it’s his impact on the game defensively via forecheck/puck pressure that leads to offense.
He’s probably not going to score 50+ points per year by the looks of it, but Jesse’s going to drive puck possession and with his size, speed, and deceptiveness. The sky’s still the limit with this player if his coaches, teammate, and GM believe in him and realize what kind of player he truly is.
