Should the Oilers Go Out and Trade for the NHL’s Dennis Rodman?

Coming from an Edmonton Oilers point of view, BLH provides you with excerpts from the latest NHL news, rumors, and speculation from all of the internet’s best sites including Spector’s Hockey, The Fourth Period, NHL Trade Talk, The Hockey Writers, Sportsnet, The Athletic, TSN and more!

Down Goes Brown: We’re not mad, just disappointed with the 2021 playoff underperformer team

*The following Edmonton Oilers were listed on Sean McIndoe’s annual team of playoff disappointments*

Adam Larsson, Oilers – The Oilers don’t have as many candidates as you might think, although there’s one more we’ll meet very soon. I’ll round out my blue line with Larsson, who had an up-and-down season but was looking strong down the stretch, then had a rough go against the Jets. In four games playing second-pair minutes, he was on the ice for six goals against. The good news is that he didn’t exactly play himself out of the Oilers budget as a pending UFA, but it would have been nice to have a more dependable option available during the handful of minutes a night that Darnell Nurse wasn’t playing.

Connor McDavid, Oilers – Let’s be crystal clear: McDavid isn’t to blame for the Oilers’ loss. No team loses four straight because of one guy, and while it’s a very hockey mindset to blame the best player in the world for not doing enough, Edmonton’s problems were elsewhere in the lineup. Still … one primary point in four games? Back-to-back pointless games on home ice to open the series, as his team dug a hole they wouldn’t be able to climb out of? A tough giveaway on the OT series-winner? McDavid wasn’t to blame, but he certainly wasn’t great in the series, or even all that good. Given what we know he can do, he has to be on this team.

BLH’s Thoughts: I have a hard time putting McDavid and Larsson on a list like this. They did everything within their powers to try and get Edmonton over the hump vs. Winnipeg. For me, aside from Dave Tippett, I’d probably have Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Dmitry Kulikov as the two most disappointing individual skaters for the Oilers in the playoffs this year. Edmonton needed way more from them in their roles.

Sharks Looking at Evander Kane Trade Due to Team Friction Issues

It appears Evander Kane has worn out his welcome with the San Jose Sharks, but can the team trade the polarizing but productive forward?

Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff made a list of the Top 20 players that could be traded this NHL offseason and Kane made the list at No. 5. It’s a surprising spot until you here Seravalli’s explanation as to why. He writes: “Doug Wilson is navigating choppy waters in the Bay Area. Sources indicate significant friction built up between Kane and a number of his teammates last season, frustration that was expressed clearly to management in exit interviews.

  • “The trouble is Kane is also coming off the best season of his career: 32 goal and 40 assist pace over an 82-game season. He is one of the best at his position with a relentless forechecking style  – and he’s signed to a contract that is commensurate with that production. We’ll see where this goes.”

BLH’s Thoughts: I’d say the Oilers should get in on this guy because he’s exactly the kind of winger they need but if Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Brent Burns, and MA Vlasic couldn’t set him straight, who will? Then again, Dennis Rodman was no angel on those Championship-winning Chicago Bulls teams and they made it work…

The one thing in the way of Kane going anywhere is his M-NTC. It says he has to give Doug Wilson a list of THREE TEAMS he’s willing to be traded to and how much do you wanna bet that Vegas is one of them?

Michael De Rosa reckons this summer the Edmonton Oilers could finally get the faceoff-winning right-shot center that they’ve needed for years.

  • “Luke Glendening is a valuable fourth-line center, as he is spectacular at face offs. That certainly comes in handy when in the defensive zone and on the penalty kill. The Edmonton Oilers would benefit immensely by adding him.

The Oilers could use a player like Glendening to not only help them defensively, but also when it comes to his leadership. It also helps that Ken Holland has a connection with Glendening because of his days with the Red Wings.”

BLH’s Thoughts: I’d love nothing more than to have Glendening on the Oilers but I fear at his age he’ll be more interested in staying with the Red Wings. If that turns out to be the case, maybe he’s a trade deadline target for Edmonton though.
